Online training course on creating food databases
| 20-10-2023The online training provided an opportunity for a larger number of experts to participate in the course as opposed to the traditional face-to-face training activities at the NPPC-VÚP workplace (max. 2 participants), but it was also a challenge for the organizers, especially in the practical exercises with the software.
The course was attended by 14 experts from three organizations - 5 from the Technical University of Chisinau, 4 from the Public Health Office in Skopje and 5 from the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje. The main topic of the training was the collection and documentation of food composition data according to European (EuroFIR) and world (INFOODS) standards and recommendations using specific software equipment.
The aim of applying these standards is to unify the structure of the databases, their mutual compatibility, increase the quality of data on the nutritional composition of foodstuffs and, last but not least, to adapt to European legislation. NPPC-VÚP has long provided technical and professional support to developing countries in capacity building, which do not have the necessary equipment and expertise in the field of food databases.
In the framework of this course, the participating organisations were provided free of charge with software with manual (Daris 1.1.9), technical lectures and presentations within the framework of the project Professional and technical support to the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia, respectively, in the field of food databases.
