On 12th and 13th of February 2020, the Xth School of Lipidology and XXVIIIth year of New trends in atherosclerosis prevention, took place at the Carlton Hotel in Bratislava. At the invitation of the presidency of the Slovak Atherosclerosis Association, NPPC - VÚP employees actively participated in the event.

On this event the Food Research Institute was represented by Ing. Stanislav Baxa, PhD., who delivered a presentation on the topic: Non-medical aspects of the food and environment contaminants impact on the health of the population of Slovak Republic (M. Polovka, S. Šilhár, S. Baxa, P. Siekel, Food Research Institute, Bratislava).

The presentation summarizes unique data about contaminants and foreign substances present in both environment and food. This data, continuously gathered since 1985, as well the newest food and environmental problems – acrylamid, fipronil, mycotoxins and nanoparticles, with emphasis on TiO2 (which is commonly used in medicine and cosmetics), were the topic of the presentation.

It was also an opportunity to introduce the project NANOFEED, which focuses on research and development of nanoparticles in food and animal feed.

The presentation met with a positive reaction from physicians who were present, which resulted in a discussion which yielded offers of future cooperation in the field of nanoparticles in medicine.
